Dogs are Hard Workers!

Hi Readers!

The 3rd graders have been learning about how dogs work and help people in our community. The classes read the story, "Aero and Officer Mike" to learn about K-9 Officers. Police often have dogs that are part of their team. The job of dogs like Aero is to help officers find missing people and dangerous things by using their sense of smell.

This week, students were given the opportunity to meet two dogs that are working with people in our community. On Monday, Mrs. Curley's father came to visit with his therapy dog named Honey. Mr. Talbot is a veteran and was struggling with adjusting to civilian life after his tour in the military. Honey helps Mr. Talbot feel safe in public places with crowds. We learned that Honey had to go through 3 years of tests and training to become an official service dog. She can do things like pick up dropped items, turn on and off the lights, and bring a phone to someone who is injured. What Honey does best is accompany Mr. Talbot when he goes out. She is able to warn him about people coming close, and calm any anxiety he might experience. We got to pet Honey and see some of the amazing things she is able to do.
